- Full-time student in an approved course
- Australian resident
- Meet the income and assets tests
Key Differences from Youth Allowance
Austudy doesn't have a parental income test — your parents' income doesn't affect your payment. It's assessed purely on your own income and assets (and your partner's if partnered). This is the main advantage of turning 25 while studying.
Stacking Payments
You can receive Austudy plus Rent Assistance (up to ~$219/fn) and the Student Start-up Loan ($1,190/semester). Combined, this can significantly improve your financial position while studying.
Frequently Asked Questions

Austudy is for students 25+. No parental income test — only your own income matters. Same payment rate as Youth Allowance (away from home).
Can I work on Austudy?
